How 2: create deeplinks to Firebox pages

I'm going to start writing some basic guides for both our affiliates and interested merchants, and have decided to tag them all 'How 2' after the tv show. Just because I can.

First up, a guide to deeplinking to Firebox, something I get asked about all the time by new affiliates.

For anyone who doesn't know, a deeplink is a link from an affiliate that goes straight to a page on Firebox other than the homepage. So for example a link going to a product page, promotion page or category.

First of all, deeplinking to us isn't rocket science. We don't have a really complicated url format you have to use, our local cookie is taken care of by the network tracking, so all you really need to do is add the url of the page you want to link to into the network code.

Affiliate Window

Link format:

http://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=550&awinaffid=YOURID&clickref=REF&p=URL

You need to replace the following bits with your own information:

YOURID needs to be changed to your affiliate id

REF needs to be any reference you want to use, so you can see where your sales are coming from

URL is any Firebox.com url. So it could be http://www.firebox.com/product/2145/PoGo-Instant-Photo-Printer which is the link to our new instant photo printer, http://www.firebox.com/category/boystoys which is our boys toys category, or even something like http://www.firebox.com/firebox/search?searchstring=helicopter which is a search for the word 'helicopter'.

Affiliate Future

Link format:

http://scripts.affiliatefuture.com/AFClick.asp?affiliateID=YOURID&merchantID=214&programmeID=624&mediaID=0&tracking=REF&url=URL

So again, YOURID needs to be replaced with your affiliate id, REF is your reference, and URL is any page on Firebox.com

Why deeplink

Well, if you are promoting a specific product, a deeplink is going to convert far better than a homepage link, as it saves customers searching. Equally, if you know you are sending traffic looking for a particular product category or piece of information, you can deeplink straight to it.
